Kambo In Austin, TX

What is Kambo?

Kambo is a natural and potent medicine derived from the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, also known as the giant leaf frog. Kambo has been used for centuries by indigenous tribes for its profound cleansing and healing effects on the mind, body, and spirit.

Kambo’s first bioactive peptide was discovered in 1966 and since then, there have been more than 70 Kambo patents registered in the pharmaceutical world throughout the United States. Kambo’s scientific research began in 1980 thanks to the Italian pharmacologist, Vittorio Erspamer, of the University of Rome. He was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize, concluding that Kambo contains a “fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications unmatched by any other amphibian.”

The rich reservoir of bioactive peptides within Kambo contributes to its therapeutic effects, offering potent relief from depression, anxiety, Austin allergies, brain fog, gut issues, parasites, hormone imbalances, addictive patterns, PTSD, chronic pain, auto immune diseases, long-covid, cancer, fertility issues and more. Experiencing Kambo is a transformative journey that helps clear physical toxins, release emotional baggage, and heal the spirit.

The Science & Peptides

Kambo's healing properties stem from its composition abundant in bioactive peptides and neuropeptides, which interact with the body's receptors, influencing various physiological processes. The peptides found in Kambo are able to modulate the immune system, regulate pain, and impact mood and brain function in a positive way.

There are over 7,000 naturally occurring peptides in the body that play a crucial role in cellular function. As we age, our cells start to break down, causing a plethora of issues including fatigue, physical and mental ailments and disease.

What are peptides, neuropeptides and bioactive peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acid monomers linked by peptide bonds. Peptides send signals to your cells to function properly.

Neuropeptides are small protein-like molecules (peptides) used by neurons to communicate with each other. They are neurotransmitters that influence the activity of the brain and the body in specific ways. Different neuropeptides are involved in a range of brain functions; including analgesia (pain relief), reward, food intake, metabolism, reproduction, social behaviors, learning and memory.

Bioactive peptides exert a positive effect in humans due to its health-promoting properties. Bio-active peptides exert many beneficial effects like preventing diseases or modulating the physiological systems once they are absorbed in the human peptides, so that they can be involved in the gastrointestinal system such as the anti-obesity and satiety peptides, the cardiovascular system, immune system and nervous system.

    • Prevents heart disease

    • Avoids many cancers

    • Prevents alzheimer’s and dementia

    • Minimizes depression and anxiety

    • Supports the immune system

    • Fights against bacteria, viruses and other sources of infection

    • Strengthens sexual function

    • Balances hormonal functioning

    • Repairs and preserves the strength of skin, hair and nails

    • Protects the cell efficiency and metabolic flexibility

  • Phyllomedusin

Produces contractions at the smooth muscle level and increases secretions of the entire gastrointestinal tract such as the salivary glands, stomach, small and large intestine, pancreas and gallbladder. These are the main parts responsible for the deep purge produced by the administration of Kambo.

    Phyllokinin & Phyllomedusins

Both are potent vasodilators, increasing the permeability of the blood-brain barrier both for their own access as well as for that of other active peptides. Within this family are the medusins, which also have antimicrobial and antifungal properties.

    Caeruleins and Sauvagines

These are peptides with chains of 40 amino acids with myotropic properties on the smooth muscles, producing a contraction of the colon and urinary bladder. They produce a drop in blood pressure accompanied by tachycaridia.

They stimulate the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland, contributing to greater sensory perception and increased resistance. Both peptides possess a great analgesic power, contributing to the increase of physical strength, the capacity to confront phsycial pain, stress, disease and diminish the symptoms of fatigue. In the medical field, this family of peptides contributes to improved digestion, and aids against pain in renal colic, pain due to peripheral vascular insufficiency and tumor pain.

    Dermorphin & Deltorphin

These are small peptides composed of 7 amino acids. They are selective agonists of the opiate delta receptors, 4000 times more potent than morphine and 40 times more than the endogenous endorphins.

    Adenoregulins

Discovered in the 90’s by John Daly’s team at the National Institute of Health in the USA. Adenoregulin works on the human body through all human cellular fuel. These receptors may offer a target for the treatment of depression, stroke and cognitive loss diseases, such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

    Antimicrobial Peptides

    Dermaseptins

Current research suggests that certain peptides, including dermaseptins have potent antimicrobial properties, which means they have the ability to combat various microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, yeast and protozoa. Several years of research carried out at the University of Paris have shown that peptides Dermaseptin B2 and B3 are effective in killing certain types of cancer cells. Research at Queen's University in Belfast recently won a prestigious award for his groundbreaking work with cancer and Kambo. Its action mechanism is produced by inhibiting the angiogenesis of tumor cells, with selective cytotoxicity for these cells.

    Bradykinins

Bradykinins are a group of peptides that play a role in several physiological processes, particularly in the cardiovascular and inflammatory systems. They regulate blood pressure, inflammation and pain. Particularly, they cause blood vessels to dilate, leading to increased blood flow. They enhance permeability of blood vessels, allowing fluid and proteins to move from the bloodstream to the surrounding tissues. Bradykinins are also involved in the sensation of pain by sensitizing nerve endings, and contribute to the inflammatory response by promoting the release of inflammatory regulators.

    Bombesins

Bombesins are peptides that have various physiological effects in the body. Bombesin is a neuropeptide that acts as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, particularly in the brain. It plays a role in the regulation of various physiological processes, including the release of hormones. Bombesin has been found to influence gastrointestinal functions, including the release of gastric acid and pancreatic enzymes; it can modulate the digestive processes in the stomach and pancreas. Some studies suggest that bombesin may be involved in the regulation of appetite and food intake. It has been explored for its potential role in controlling obesity and related metabolic disorders. Additionally, bombesin analogs have been investigated for their potential use in cancer therapy. These analogs may be used in targeted therapies to deliver anticancer agents directly to tumor cells expressing bombesin receptors.

    Ceruleans

Ceruleans stimulate gastric, bile, and pancreatic secretions. They can be used in the paralytic ileus (a medical condition characterized by a lack of movement of the muscles in the GI tract, which leads to a disruption in the normal flow of contents through the digestive system). Paralytic ileus can occur in any part of the GI tract, including the small intestine and the colon. Ceruleans is also a diagnostic medium in pancreatic dysfunction.

    Tryptophilins

Tryptophilins are neuropeptides consisting of 4 to 14 amino acids which are opening up new perspectives on how the human brain works.

 FAQ

  • Kambo is applied by creating an access point or “gate” on the skin. We do this through creating minor blister points on the skin. This is done quickly and precisely. Depending on intentions for the session, people sitting with Kambo for the first time tend to open 2-5 gates. Gates are traditionally opened on the left arm or right ankle, but can also be administered on the spine or other areas, depending on the person receiving the session. Once the gates are open, the kambo secretion is prepared and administered onto the open gates.

  • After filling out a waiver and scheduling your session, the day has finally arrived. You will be fasted for at least seven hours and arrive in comfortable, loose-fitted clothing. After settling in, we will go over the origins of Kambo, intentions for your session and decide on the number of gates to open. You will drink 3/4 liter of water while the medicine is being prepared. We will start with a test-point and wait five minutes to ease into the process and see how you respond to the medicine. Once the five minutes is up, we will assess and apply the remainder of the points.

You may quickly feel what is referred to as the “kambo flu”. You will feel Kambo scan your body as a warm internal heat subtly builds within you, which tends to feel pleasant. Your face may flush red, you may feel a slight beating in your head, your heart will beat more quickly, you may feel hot or cold, you may sweat and your hands or feet may tingle. Throughout the process, you may feel the need to “get well” - throw up or use the bathroom.

Purging tends to be easy, as the water helps any discomfort felt during the process. The medicine is only on for 20 minutes, enough time to let the body absorb the peptides. After the Kambo is wiped off, symptoms quickly dissipate and you are left with a cleansing and euphoric feeling. You will rest for at least 30 minutes and I will be with you during your entire journey.

Once rested, you will be able to continue your day as usual, although building in time for self-care is highly recommended, as you may feel more sensitive and tender. People report feeling more uplifted, clean, clear, healthier, stronger, more energized and overall, more like their true selves for days and often weeks after their session. You will be offered rapè after Kambo to ground and complete the ceremony.

  • Short answer- most likely. Different skin tones are more visibly affected than others, although the little gates heal quickly and fade over time. Once the Kambo is removed, Dragon’s Blood; a resin made from the Sangre de Drago tree, is applied to the little blister points. This resin is used topically for healing, as it has antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as a liquid bandaid while your skin heals. Red light therapy, vitamin E and emu oil have all helped Kambo marks fade. Kambo is considered a warrior medicine. The marks from Kambo are seen by many as a symbol of pride on their healing journey.

  • Sananga is a traditional medicine made from the roots and bark of the Tabernaemontana undulate trees, which are native to the Amazon. It is prepared by scraping the bark or roots of the tree and soaking them in water to create a liquid extract. Sananga is administered as eye drops, applied directly to the eyes, causing a brief but intense burning sensation, followed by clarity, heightened perception and a decalcification of the pineal gland. Most people report heightened color perception and clarity shortly after receiving Sananga. It’s also been known to help with astigmatisms, cataracts, glaucoma and eye styes.

  • Rapé (pronounced "hapay") is a sacred and traditional shamanic snuff used by indigenous tribes in the Amazon rainforest, particularly in Brazil and Peru. Tribes such as the Huni Kuin, Nu-nu, Yawanawá and Katukina have weaved rapé into their cultures since the Mayan civilization, for ritual, medicinal and recreational purposes. It is made from a mixture of powdered tobacco leaves and medicinal tree ashes. The ingredients vary depending on the specific recipe used by each tribe.

Rapé has comparatively high levels of beta-cabolines, which interact with serotonin and dopamine systems in the brain, helping to relieve depression and anxiety. Rapé is typically administered by blowing the powdered mixture into the nostrils using a small blowpipe called a "Tepi." The administration of rapé is often part of traditional healing ceremonies and rituals used for spiritual, medicinal, and therapeutic purposes. You will be offered rapè after kambo to help ground and close the ceremony.

  • The International Union for Conservation (IUCN) endangered species database lists them in the “Least Concern” category, in view of their current wide distribution and large population.

Harvesting frogs is done safely and ethically in a way that honors the connection of humans and nature. The organization I work with, called Tribal Detox, works with the Cocama tribe in Peru. Frogs are harvested during rainy season, when the frogs are more active. While collaborating with the Cocama, we have access to over 100,000 frogs in over 80 miles of jungle landscape.

Frogs are gently captured and brought back to the village to harvest the Kambo. Here, they undergo a two-minute process, where their four legs are spread apart in order to scrape the kambo secretion off its back. The kambo is placed on a stick and dried out for later use. The frog is then released safely back to its original habitat.

We never go to the same spot more than once in a three-month period and we always leave enough secretion on the frog to protect itself. Tribal Detox practices reflect a deep reverence for the Cocoma and ecological stewardship with the Amazon and the frogs. Tribal Detox members participate in donation campaigns throughout the year for the Cocoma and have annual opportunities to visit the Cocoma tribes and create a deeper relationship with them and the frogs. Transparency of this process is important. Always ask your practitioner if they know where their Kambo is from and if it has been sourced ethically.
